Supported Decision Making
Decision-making is an important aspect in everyone’s life. It impacts our physical, emotional, financial, medical, and spiritual well-being. When making a decision, we often need to seek additional support from people we know and trust to provide information to help us make an informed decision.
The Supported Decision-Making (SDM) Movement focuses on the ability of all individuals to be empowered to make decisions for their own lives. SDM is a way for a person to make his or her own decisions by relying on friends, family members, professionals, and other people he or she trusts to: help understand issues and choices; ask questions; receive explanations in language he or she understands; and communicate with others.
